Less than a month after launching Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Nintendo revealed some exciting news. Two new installments in the Pokémon mainline series are coming to Nintendo Switch later this year – Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

HBO’s Hit Show ‘Euphoria’ Gets Renewed for a Third Season

The news was initially unveiled during a 14-minute live stream on Sunday for Pokémon Day 2022. The open-world games will feature three brand new starter Pokémon for Trainers to choose from. This includes Sprigatito the Grass Cat, Fuecoco the Fire Croc, and Quaxly the Water Duckling. Further, The Pokémon Company described the landscape of the game as an “open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness.” Scarlet and Violet will feature new regions with a mix of lively urbanized cities and idyllic pastures. Trainers will be able to find Pokémon “in the skies, in the sea, and on the streets.”

This announcement continues what’s been a busy stretch for The Pokémon Company. They’ve released the aforementioned Arceus, as well as remakes of Diamond and Pearl, just within the last four months. With Scarlet and Violet, we officially usher in the 9th generation of Pokémon, marking the first mainline releases since 2019’s Sword and Shield.
