The foolishness over at Rockstar Games continues. It’s no secret – diehard fans of Grand Theft Auto have been eagerly awaiting a new game for years. Over the summer, rumors about remasters sparked plenty of conversation among nostalgic fans. Now that the remastered GTA: The Trilogy is finally here, fans couldn’t be more disappointed with Rockstar’s product.
It’s been a very rocky launch weekend to say the least. The remaster was supposed to be playable on November 11th, however, due to maintenance and other issues, it’s been anything but. Players across all major platforms have reported graphical bugs and gameplay glitches across the classic PS2-era series. For PC players, the game became unavailable on the Rockstar Games store the same day it launched. In a tweet, Rockstar Support cited a need to “remove files unintentionally included in these versions” as the reason.

GTA: The Trilogy allegedly features improved graphics, more responsive controls, and a number of other enhancements. While all of that sounds nice on paper, the result is wildly inconsistent. Improvements to lighting and texture come with a grain of salt. While certain side-by-side comparisons look great, there are plenty of equally terrible counterparts.
Some users shared their unpleasant experiences on Twitter, including blinding white rain droplets and funky-looking characters. Many have compared the unfinished game to the chaotic state of last year’s Cyberpunk 2077. GTA: The Trilogy currently holds an aggregate score of 0.5 out of 5 according to Metacritic. One user described the game as “one of the most pathetic remasters of all time.” Understandably, disgruntled players bombarded Rockstar Games with refund requests all weekend.
As of late Sunday night, Rockstar confirmed the game is once again available to play on PC, though it is unclear whether any drastic improvements have been made. Regardless, this low-effort remaster rushed out before Christmas is sure to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of longtime GTA fans.
