Nike Dips into its Archives and Brings Back the “Challenger”

The sneaker made its official return in 2020 and hits a nostalgia all-time high with this OG color way.

In 1979, Nike introduced a new running sneaker to the world that featured a lighter profile and better cushioning. They dubbed the sneaker: the Nike Challenger. In 2020, Nike Sportswear elected to bring the sneaker back into the spotlight, this time in a classic “White/University Red” colorway.

The secret seems to be keeing everything the same. It’s a, if its not broken, don’t break it kinda thing. These different textures give the sneaker a much needed sense of contrast. Starting with clean white mesh on the tongues and toe boxes, we receive canvas on the quarters, all in a clean light finish. It all takes a turn with a spash of “University Red” featured on the Swooshes and heel portion.

This all sits atop a white midsole and black outsole which features waffle racer tech. You can take a detailed look at the images in the gallery above If you like these, they’re available at Nike.com and authorized Nike retailers for $111.
