Nintendo‘s sales continue to dominate. The gaming giant announced an impressive 200 percent rise in profits. This comes shortly after the report of a 428 percent Q1 regarding Nintendo’s operating profits. This success comes in the pandemic’s wake, which made the Nintendo Switch a highly sought after device during quarantine.
Operating profits for the first half of the fiscal year jumped 209 percent — $2.8 billion over the same period in the previous year. Nintendo sold roughly 12.5 million units of its Switch from April to September, pointing to an 81 percent increase. Sales have also climbed up 73 percent — $7.4 billion.
If Nintendo continues down this route. They could see a record for profits in 2021, a first in 12 years. Outside of the Switch selling so well, franchise titles have also contributed to its popularity and demand. Games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is on track to become the best-selling game ever for the Switch, with over 26 million copies sold. We’ll see if Nintendo can continue this fiery streak. Especially with new players in the game such as Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.
