We first heard news of the Air Jordan 1 CO.JP when Jordan Brand announced its Fall 2020 retro collection. As you could expect, it got a lot of hype. When these dropped in 2001 as part of a four-shoe “Japan Addition” that also had a “Black,” “Midnight Navy” and “White/Midnight Navy” pairs, these weren’t very popular. Jordan 1’s weren’t very popular, come to think about it. The “Metallic Silver”coloway was likely the most popular when it originally released. What makes these special is how limited they are. The “Japan Addition” colorway only released in Japan and were only made in negligible quantities: the black, white and midnight navy pairs were kept to 3,000 each, while the “Metallic Silver” only received a meager 2001. This year they make their official return in 2020 and the hype on these will be unrealistic.

So we start with metallic leather paired with nubuck on the upper. The metallic silver appears on the toebox, swooshes, heels and collar flaps. The previously mentioned newbuck comes in soft grey featured on the quarter panels, eyestays, mudguard and collar. They give the tongue a touch of tumbled leather for some textural contrast and we welcome it. We also find an original jeweled ball-and-wings logo on the lateral collar flap. To round things off, we find a new Nike Air logo on the tongue as the previous pair opted for the traditional Jumpman logo.
Inside the tongue you’ll see “1 of 2020,” which honors the originals limited numbered nature. Within the shoe CO.JP sits on the insole spelt out. Nike finishes off the look as these sit atop a white and grey midsole. These sneakers also feature a special silver suitcase, each of which receives its own indvidual number.
