Doja Cat has officially launched her next musical era with the release of a brand new single, “Jealous Type,” accompanied by a sensual and stylish music video. The track is the first offering from her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Vie, and signals a bold sonic pivot from the darker, rap-focused energy of her previous record, Scarlet.
“Jealous Type” is a sleek, ’80s-inspired funk-pop song, crafted by the powerhouse production duo of Jack Antonoff and Y2K. The track’s groovy bassline and shimmering synths create a vibrant, retro soundscape that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new for the artist.

The accompanying music video, directed by Boni Mata, perfectly complements the song’s aesthetic. The visual leans into a theme of duality, opening with Doja Cat watching a home movie of herself on a vintage reel-to-reel projector. She then comes face to face with a second version of herself, with both Dojas dressed in stylish ’80s attire. The two figures dance on opposite sides of a limousine window before finally coming together on the hood of the vehicle in a powerful moment of self-confrontation.
Lyrically, the song explores the complex emotions of dealing with a partner’s “jealous tendencies.” In a recent interview, Doja explained that the main theme of her new album is “love bombing.” She described the song as exploring a feeling of “being okay with when someone finds someone else and understanding that and taking value from it as a lesson,” a mature and introspective take on relationships.
With a fresh sound, a compelling visual identity, and a thoughtful thematic focus, “Jealous Type” is a confident first step into a new creative chapter for Doja Cat. Her new album, Vie, is scheduled to be released on September 26.
