Disney has just released the first full trailer for Tron: Ares, the third chapter in the iconic sci-fi franchise, and it’s a radical departure from what has come before. Set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025, the film’s central premise is flipped: instead of a human entering the digital world, a program is coming to ours.
The trailer introduces Ares, a supremely intelligent and powerful program played by Jared Leto, who is sent from the Grid on a mission into the human world. He is the creation of tech mogul Julian Dillinger, played by Evan Peters, who ominously hints at the disposable nature of his creation. The film’s conflict is framed as a high stakes collision between digital power and human vulnerability, a theme that resonates deeply in today’s world. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and the welcome return of Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn.
Following the legendary Tron: Legacy score by Daft Punk, this new installment taps Nine Inch Nails to compose the soundtrack. The trailer features the debut of their new single, “As Alive as You Need Me to Be,” which sets a gritty, unworldly tone for the film. The full score is scheduled for release on September 19, 2025.
Visually, director Joachim Rønning delivers a neon soaked spectacle that honors the franchise’s groundbreaking aesthetic while updating it for a new generation. With a compelling new story, a heavy hitting cast, and a sound that demands attention, Tron: Ares is shaping up to be a major cinematic event this fall.
