Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ Trailer is Full of Wonder and Emotion

Premiering on Netflix and in select theaters on December 9th.

Netflix has shared the first official trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion musical adaptation of the classic tale Pinocchio. The Oscar-winning auteur del Toro and stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson reimagine Carlo Collodi’s iconic fable.

“People are sometimes afraid of things they don’t know,” says Gepetto, a grieving father voiced by David Bradley. Gepetto carves the wooden puppet, voiced by Gregory Mann, after the death of his son. According to Netflix, del Toro’s adaptation finds Pinocchio on an enchanted adventure that transcends worlds and reveals the life-giving power of love. Additionally, del Toro’s fantastical take on the story includes all the inventive creatures and evil villains you’d expect. The trailer also shows the outcasted puppet becoming a star as he performs for cheering crowds at a circus venue. However, as he finds his place in the world, Pinocchio must endure cruel and mischievous escapades. The film features additional voice acting from Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Ron Perlman, and Christoph Waltz.
