Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Manchester United “By Mutual Agreement”

A disappointing ending to the reunion.

Manchester United has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club, effective immediately.

United made the decision to cancel the remaining eight months of Ronaldo’s contract after the striker’s tempestuous interview with Piers Morgan in which he said the club had made “zero progress” since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and that he “doesn’t respect” coach Erik ten Hag.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

Ronaldo, 37, was in his second stint with United after three years with Juventus and nine with Real Madrid. Initially, his return to United was well-received by the club’s supporters. However, the team failed to match the successes of Ronaldo’s first term. From 2003 to 2009, Ronaldo led United to three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Champions League.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Ronaldo will next take the pitch for Portugal’s national team at the Qatar World Cup against Ghana on November 24th.
