HBO Shares Chilling First Trailer for ‘The Last of Us’ Series

An adaptation of the award-winning video game.

At long last, HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for its highly-anticipated The Last of Us series adaptation. Clocking in at just under two minutes, the teaser gives fans a first look at the Clickers, iconic characters, and that epic opening scene from the game.

Kit Harington to Return as Jon Snow in ‘Game of Thrones’ Sequel Series

Pedro Pascal stars as Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie (Bella Ramsey), across the post-apocalyptic United States. The trailer shows Joel and Ellie navigating a world dominated by Clickers – infected beings exposed to the Cordyceps brain fungus. Unable to see, Clickers use a spine-chilling form of echolocation to hunt their prey. Fan reaction to the trailer was overwhelmingly positive, with some noticing the series possibly adapting the game’s prologue shot-for-shot.

The series is co-created and written by Craig Mazin and The Last of Us game director/writer Neil Druckmann. Additional cast members include Nick Offerman as Bill, Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as the Fireflies leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel’s smuggling partner Tess. Guest stars include Storm Reid as Riley and Murray Bartlett as Frank.

You can watch the official teaser trailer in the player above. The Last of Us premieres on HBO Max in 2023.
