Takashi Sano will direct the 10-episode series after receiving positive feedback for his work on the anime shorts “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer meets God (Rick meets Evil)”. Sano previously directed the Tower of God anime series. While Rick and Morty: The Anime will adapt themes and events of the main series, it will stand on its own as an original work. Sano provided the following statement alongside the announcement.
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion. It’s such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family.”
Rick and Morty: The Anime will air on both Adult Swim and HBO Max. The network has yet to announce an official release date for the series. We’ll be sure to update you with additional information as it becomes available.
