Mercedes–Maybach‘s capsule with Virgil Abloh has officially launched. What we get is a limited-edition bespoke S-Class and an accompanying capsule collection. The latest collaboration pulls inspiration from 2021’s “Project MAYBACH”, which Abloh unveiled alongside Mercedes-Maybach in late 2021.

They’re only making 150 units, which were designed by Abloh before he passed last year. Dubbed the Maybach by Virgil Abloh, the collaborative design is based on a fully-equipped Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 and features the “Project MAYBACH” two-tone color blocking of glossy “Obsidian Black” and “Sand.” This palette moves to the vehicle’s interior, including the four seats, steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, floormats and ceiling. They round off the design with a special Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo which you’ll find several times across the car’s interior.

Most of these design queues make their way to user interface as well, with hand-picked visual elements used on the updated version of the Maybach MBUX suite of technologies. Furthermore, the car comes with a custom-made wooden box featuring a 1/18 scale replica of the car, the two car keys and a carabiner hook.

There’s also a capsule collection to accompany the release of the car. Of course its a collaboration with Off-White™ which continues the car’s color palette, featured on vintage washed T-shirts, half-brushed cotton fleece crewnecks and hoodies, canvas baseball caps and racing gloves in canvas, neoprene and suede all coming in “Sand” with contrasting black details.

For the release of this project, Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG, made a statement:

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we have created in collaboration with Virgil. From Project Gelaendewagen, which set the benchmark for fashion/automotive collaborations with our iconic G-Class, to “Project MAYBACH” which brought the distinguished Mercedes-Maybach heritage into the future, together with Virgil we truly broke new ground. The limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh exemplifies the symbiosis between innovative design and ultimate craftsmanship now available on the road.”

Both the car and the apparel collection are available now, and the collection is available now from Off-White™, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury online stores.
