[junkie-dropcap]T[/junkie-dropcap]hree months later. And it’s finally finished. Customizing this roster has been a part-time job to say the least. This right here is for the people. For the ones who have stuck with Madden despite its shortcomings. Honestly, I don’t enjoy playing Madden all that much. However, I grew up watching lots of football and playing it back in the day when it was dope. Creating rosters like this brings me joy. I appreciate great athletes. Many inspire me on a daily basis. While I never played much football in real life, watching it has a way of pulling people together. So I built an arcade-style roster with All-City dream teams to bring the joy back to Madden. The Frostbite engine looks beautiful on MADDEN 22. So I thought, ‘What would be better than watching legends across various generations duke it out?’
About five years back, I created a similar roster on MADDEN 17. Nevertheless I only completed 20 of the 32 NFL teams. This forged a void in my mind, which called out to me in Spring of this year. Plenty of nerds like me make custom rosters on Madden. Yet I guarantee our roster will feel different. When I actually put something out, a piece of my soul comes with it. I spent TIME on this thing, y’all. TIME. Because it has to be right. I want someone who’s on the fence about playing the latest Madden to rediscover their excitement for the franchise. Sure, the hilarious glitches and questionable physics quirks of the game are there. There’s no getting around them. I pride myself on my attention to detail nonetheless. Select your favorite team. See who made the cut. And go all out on the gridiron.

Hold up, though. Just because a player didn’t make my cut doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a spot on this roster. However, my vision for this roster stems from a desire to make this experience function equally as well whether you’re playing or spectating computers. Yes, I’m the kind of guy who watches two CPU-controlled teams battle. (For best results, I recommend 8-minute Quarters with a 14-second Accelerated Clock if you wanna try.) This means for the color commentary to feel more organic, it’s better to have as many active players as possible.
The New Age Legacy Roster merges retro legends with the stars of today. 32 Ultimate Team-style options from which to choose. Except rather than picking cards, hoping for good ones, and receiving 85 or 90 Overalls, you get a spread of Hall-of-Fame talent on their hypothetical best day. Though you’ll likely find some players slightly overrated and some slightly underrated. I’ve tweaked the teams to play as realistically as possible. With rosters like this, changing one rating on one player by one point changes the outcome of the game completely.
Correct Me If I’m Wrong: Haymakers & Turkey Bowling
This led to many long nights watching countless CPU games to adjust teams to the best of my ability. I want playing and watching to emit equal yet separate fun. Before I head out, I want to give y’all some quick notes. Some notable players you won’t see in this roster are Jim Brown, Joe Greene, the Bennett brothers, Greg Jennings, Clay Matthews, Brian Cushing and Arian Foster. If any of them are your favorite player, I apologize.
Also, creating players means having to select from a pool of the same default faces. A handful of legends have the same default face. Thus I’ve equipped many players with dark visors. Partially to cover my bases and partially to keep some players from looking distractingly unlike themselves. Players like Joe Namath, John Elway, and Warren Moon were too difficult a code for me to crack. As a result, I suggest keeping the weather set to either CLEAR or OVERCAST.

When you set the weather to RAIN or SNOW, players lose their visors. And many of their faces really don’t look like the actual person. If I could go in and fine-tune their faces, best believe I would. Additionally, there are some “problematic” players I added to a few teams. I won’t name them here, but I felt like it would be more fun to have them out there. Some guys deserve a second chance to appreciate their careers. And other guys were so good it’s hard to ignore what they accomplished. If you’re actually offended, they have more than competent replacements. I guess that’s it. I’ll stop talking now.
