‘Hellbound’ Becomes Netflix’s No. 1 Most Watched Show

The new Korean drama breaks a record previously held by 'Squid Game'.

Squid Game is no longer the most popular show in Netflix history.  The new Korean drama series Hellbound has ascended to number one in the world rankings just 24 hours after release.

Hellbound is a dark fantasy story about “otherworldy beings who appear out of nowhere to issue a decree and condemn individuals to hell.”  This prompts a religious group known as The New Truth to grow in influence, until a suspicious few begin to question their involvement in mysterious events.  At its core, Hellbound postulates how different forces react when faced with proof of a higher power.  The supernatural series stars Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-joo, and Park Jeong-min.  Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho serves the same role in Hellbound.

Earlier this year, Squid Game became a massive global hit for the streaming service.  In that series, 456 cash-strapped players participated in deadly children’s games to win a 45.6 billion-won prize.  The dystopian series was Netflix’s “biggest-ever series at launch” with 111 million account views in the first month.
