Gucci Reveals Limited Edition Xbox Series X

Continuing the trend of fashion brands getting involved with video games.

Gucci continues to celebrate their 100th anniversary with yet another premiere collaboration.  The luxury fashion house is continuing their venture into the world of Esports with an exclusive Xbox Series X console.  This collaboration comes as a bit of a surprise considering the current state of next-gen consoles.  Since its release last November, Microsoft has struggled to keep the Series X in stock.

Before we get into the specs, here’s Gucci’s official statement detailing the origin of their deal with Xbox.

“In the year of the House’s centennial, Gucci and video gaming brand Xbox – now reaching its 20th birthday – come together to celebrate their respective anniversaries with a limited-edition collaboration.”

The collab centers around a black Xbox Series X console with a laser-engraved GG pattern.  Each Xbox is numbered out of 100, appearing in green text directly on the console.  Additionally, the House Web stripe design emblazons two limited edition wireless controllers.  It’s packaged in a luxurious hard case reminiscent of Gucci’s archival luggage.  “GOOD GAME” is printed on the bottom of the case as tribute to the classic sign-off motto in the gaming community.  “GG” also represents founder Guccio Gucci’s initials – a happy coincidence that does wonders for this collaboration.

What’s not so happy here is the price.  The console boasts a hefty $10,000 price tag.  To sweeten the deal, Gucci unironically includes Xbox’s Game Pass Unlimited to stream over a hundred free games.  The standard Xbox Series X retails for $499, though resale prices can skyrocket to upwards of $1,000.

This collaboration continues a growing trend of fashion brands entering the gaming world.  In 2019, Louis Vuitton designed several skins for League of Legends, while Balenciaga created physical and virtual merch with Fortnite.  The Gucci Xbox isn’t the fashion brand’s first venture into gaming.  Earlier this year, the House collaborated with Roblox to creative virtual sneakers and a surreal garden in the game.  Gucci also partnered with the gaming organization 100 Thieves on a backpack capsule.
