Derek Pope doesn’t need much to make an outstanding record. His dominant sense of melody make his sound memorable. The Oakland native/Los Angeles bound artist opted for auto-tuned vocals and progressive production this time. Full of synth-ponderous instrumentation paired with pulsating-kicks and trunk rattling 808’s. The new album sounds like a cross between Travis Scott, Post Malone and PARTYNEXTDOOR. For instance, on his latest project Epochs, Pope delivers lighthearted summer vibes but shows off his exceptional penmanship.

“Picture perfect/Think I brought the sky down maybe when I surfaced/I don’t need your name if you ain’t come with some purpose/Everyone in squad get a slice and they deserve it/You don’t even sell, when you do it’s out of service”.

Because there are so many impressive records on the project. It was hard to determine an unblemished standout record. My favorite I’d have to say would be “Picture Perfect”. The song has a great hook and could easily be the single for the project. The cut Future Kids of America’ can also be the lead single. While many of the tracks sound somewhat similar, you can enjoy project from start to finish.

You can listen to the cut “Picture Perfect” off his most recent project Epochs below and let us know how you feel in the comments below. Be sure to check it the entire project on whatever streaming platform you prefer here. Lastly, for more indie spotlights, Hern Dumas Offers Impressive Debut EP “Canvas”.
