Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly “given up” on trying to retain its superstar forward Kylian Mbappé. As his contract expires this summer, it’s expected that Mbappé will soon announce a move to Real Madrid.

Last week, PSG felt confident Mbappé would return alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar to pursue Champions League glory. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino previously said he is “100 percent sure” that Mbappé would sign a new contract with the club. PSG reportedly offered Mbappé a substantial deal, the captain’s armband, 100% of his own image rights, and promised him a better squad for next season. For Mbappé, however, it isn’t about the money. He’s been upfront regarding his lifelong ambition to play for Real Madrid one day. It’s likely Mbappé will be realizing that dream very soon.
At just twenty-three years old, Kylian Mbappé has quite an impressive resume. He’s a three-time Ligue 1 Player of the Year, Champions League squad of the season honoree, and was named best young player at the 2018 World Cup. Further, he’s coming off the best season of his career with 25 goals and 17 assists in 34 Ligue 1 matches. Mbappé is widely regarded as one of the finest forwards in Europe. He joins fellow Frenchman Karim Benzema on a Real squad that won La Liga this season and is in the final of the Champions League.
There are, of course, still certain details that must be sorted out between Mbappé’s attorney and Madrid. However, it’s nothing that would prevent the deal from being finalized. Real unsuccessfully offered PSG 200 million euros for Mbappé last summer. Now, the club is poised to secure one of the greatest bargain-free transfers in history.
