Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated film Don’t Look Up. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo Dicaprio as low-level astronomers trying to warn the world of a dangerous comet set to decimate the earth.
The trailer opens with Dicaprio’s character seemingly having a panic attack in a bathroom before entering a pivotal meeting with the president, played by Meryl Streep. The POTUS and her staff are blatantly apathetic with the news of impending doom. “Do you know how many ‘the world is ending’ meetings we’ve had over the last two years?” she scoffs. Her chief-of-staff and son, played by Jonah Hill, adds “drought, famine, hole in the ozone. It’s so boring.” When faced with a life or death situation, apathy is the true threat to humanity. Political satire and climate change are central themes here, so expect plenty of rightful quips at conservative pundits who chose to deny science.
